this blog has cobwebs…

and i suppose i should apologize for its neglect but hey, it’s MY blog.  LOL!

school has hit high gear and the semester is almost over finally so I suppose that’s a good enough reason why i haven’t updated in a long time.

however, in the meantime BASEBALL season has started!!!

wow…it’s been over a month!

can’t believe how quickly time flies!

it’s been over a month since my last entry and i suppose that just goes to show how busy life has become for me in that time.

previously, i posted about my foray into becoming an Apple Store employee.  that journey continues as i am now an employee of Apple. unfortunately, with that new status there are privacy and non-disclosure issues i must now abide by so there isn’t much else i can talk about when it comes to all things Apple.

however, that doesn’t mean i can’t talk about my new MacBook Pro 13″ that I purchased a week ago today.  (i just happen to be using it right this moment to write this entry!)

can i tell you how much i LOVE this machine?!?!?!?!  it is super awesome!!!  it is the perfect size to carry around whenever i want but still powerful enough for me to work on photos & videos when i’m home.

but i think my favorite thing so far about it isn’t even part of the computer itself.  weeks before i actually even bought my MacBook Pro, i bought an accessory for it.

now many people have given me a lot of flack for it but i love it.  i think it just fits so perfectly.

however, i do have another one on the way and it’s a bit more ‘manly’ as it were.

oh, and i did get a pretty cool sleeve for it too…

butter restaurant

Living in NYC provides me with a veritable cornucopia of culinary fare.  And with the extension of Restaurant Week in NYC a few friends and I took advantage and made reservations at BUTTER (whose chef is Alex Guarnaschelli) this past Thursday.

Along with our bread basket of in-house baked sourdough bread and cornbread, we were served two types of butter: a sweet cream and a herb infused butter.

We loved the herb butter so much we asked for more of it! Dill definitely played a large role in it but there could have been some parsley in there as well. And of course we had to start off with some drinks!

Many of us tried out the Butter Martini (no, there’s no butter in it) and it was quite tasty but a bit too sweet for my tastes. Next, I tried out the Elderflower Spritzer and was pleasantly surprised at how refreshing it was! Definitely a great choice to cleanse the palate.

We were then ready to order dinner and most took advantage of the 3-course Prix Fixe offering which had an excellent number of choices for each course:

Appetizers:

  • Soup of the Day (that evening it was a Butternut Squash soup served with a side of popcorn)
  • Butter’s Homemade Charcuterie Plate: Duck Mortadella, Venison ‘Salami’, House cured Bacon with Curry, Chicken Livers with Aged Balsamic, Grilled Bread
  • Batter-dipped Florida Shrimp with marinated celery root and fresh chilis
  • Marinated Beet salad with Wheat Berries, Crumbled Goat Cheese, Mache, Sherry dressing

Entrees:

  • Braised Beef Short Ribs with Crispy Purple Majesty Potatoes, Chopped Leeks, and Fresh Pomengranate
  • Duck Confit with Grilled Shiitake Mushrooms, Apple puree and Charred Brussel Sprouts
  • Seared Fish of the Day with Roasted Sunchokes, Toasted Breadcrumbs, Pearl Tapioca and Meyer Lemon dressing
  • Smoked and Grilled Mushroom Ravioli with Jerusalem Artichoke Cream, Sunflower greens

Desserts:

  • White Chocolate Custard with Blood Orange Marmalade
  • Dark Chocolate Cake with Toasted Almond Jam
  • Caramelized Bananas, Arborio Rice Pudding with Dark Rum and Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Assorted Cheese and Fruit Plate

With such a large group, we were able to sample nearly every offering in the prix fixe menu save for the Marinated Beet Salad and the Assorted Cheese and Fruit Plate. But we hardly even missed them since the other dishes were absolutely fantastic.

Restaurant Week in NYC is going on until the end of February so do yourself a huge favor and check out participating restaurants at NYCGO!
